Skywalkers: From Destruction to Construction
This is a tribute to the journey of the Mohawk Warrior and the transformation to the Mohawk Skywalkers who built the New York City skyline. This piece employs a base consisting of a 11” I-beam with a ¾” steel rebar holding a 2lb engineering hammer know to ironworker’s as a “beater” with crossed spud wrenches. The beater is adorned with the words Mohawk and Skywalkers on the reverse side. In addition, the Mohawk Warrior flag symbolizes the cultural identity of fearless people. Furthermore, at the bottom of the handle are two Mohawks balancing on the I-beams in a display of their prowess.
Serenity Roasting Acorns During Crisis.
This is a 27” black walnut wood carving detailed with Eastern Woodlands raised beadwork influenced floral designs used be the Haudenosaunee people.
This carving is inspired by the story of the Flying Heads and the old widowed woman who tricked one of the Flying Heads, who was curious of the acorns the woman was eating. The woman convinced the Flying head to eat a hot coal she was using to roast the acorns. The Flying Head ate the hot coal and let out a painful scream and flew away, never to be seen again.
